We have found a real cool strip of quality shops hidden in an industrial park in the Cathedral City section of Palm Springs. It took some real hunting around but we have mapped a route to 5 beautiful shops in a row. Focused on modernism & decorator items, the owner of Hedge welcomed us and showed us around. Large warehouse style shops with high quality Art, Furniture, Decor, etc. HOM has a huge inventory of real nice repro-sofas available to load up today, not special order!! Leftovers, Spaces & Collin Fisher Designs are really worth the drive. When in the Palm Springs area please stop by.

Modernism Week in Palm Springs

Exciting news for all of shoppersmap blog readers and shop owners-the 8th Annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale, benefiting the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation, will be held February 15-17, 2008 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

A wide range of vintage 20th Century furniture, decorative and fine arts will be presented and sold by 75 exhibitors, many from the West Coast, but some who come from as far away as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit, Dallas, Denver, and Miami. High quality mid-Century furniture is a favorite of many dealers and collectors, but the show also includes an excellent representation of all design movements of the 20th Century from 1900 to 1970s.

An opening party and early-buying opportunity will be held on Friday evening, February 15, from 6 - 9 p.m. to benefit the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation. Preview tickets are $50 per person in advance, and $60 at the door, and are available by calling (760) 837-7117 or www.pspf.net The preview gala will feature book signings by celebrity modernism authors, as well as appetizers, full bar, and entertainment.

The weekend show hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Palm Springs Convention Center is located at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros, Palm Springs, CA 92262. Show admission is $15 per person for Saturday & Sunday; good for return entry all weekend.

The Modernism Show weekend has evolved into a full ten days of events that are sure to capture the attention of modern enthusiasts. Modernism Week will offer a variety of special events, including Palm Springs Walk of Fame dedication to architect Donald Wexler, annual benefit party for Palm Springs Modern Committee, Frey House II tours by the Palm Springs Art Museum, classic car show, vintage fashion show, double-decker bus architectural tours, and a retro martini party. A trip to the Desert!

    Any excuse to hit the road!  Today I spent the day in the Palm Springs/Riverside area delivering a much needed restock  of Antique & Retro Shoppers Map.
    Dealer response was good and I could tell by the near empty racks that the maps are being picked up and in use.  The Yucca Valley Dealers were friendly and  I saw  some beautiful  custom stained  glass  windows.  Made from colorful  shards of broken  Antique  Glassware, they are beautifully lit by the  Sun.
    In Palm Springs the shops were full of Glamorous Hollywood furniture waiting for a new home. Beaumont was bustling with I-10 traffic and the shops were busy. In Riverside the shops looked great and the crews were helpful.
    I stopped in with more maps for the concierge at THE MISSION INN where museum quality early California is the norm. The worlds most rare Steinway Piano is in the lobby. This place is a must see when in the area. I always enjoy touring old Route 66 and I'm glad to see the neon  and the Googie Architecture is now being preserved.
   Finished up looking for Elvis' honeymoon house-anyone recall where in Palm Springs it's located?
